Fishing

The Ariege has 341 mountain lakes and close to 4000km of fast flowing rivers and mountain streams and our Auberge is sited on one of these the river Arac. The majority of fishing is centered around the Queen of Fish in this area, the Brown Trout. You would be unlucky not to see one or two if you look out of one of our windows into the clear waters of the Arac. These are caught using the traditional tuc method but of course fly fishing would be equally as good.

The fishing season lasts from March to September for which a permit is required. However between the first of June and the 30th September 2-week fishing permits are available which can be bought online at www.ma-carte-de-peche.fr. We can also get the permits and print them off for you whilst you are staying with us.

Other types of fishing are also available in the Ariege. The lac de Montbel at 550 hectars is one of the largest in the area. Also the smaller but very popular lacs de Mondely and Filbert are stocked with various carnivorous fish including: Pike, Perch, Carp, Zendel and Catfish.
